lay down my life for them. Among other
things that strongly attached me to the
Brethren's church was the use of the lot,
which appeared to me as a precious jewel;
and as the christian mariner's compass
and rudder.I soon made known my
wishes to the minister; but did not obtain
my desire, and it was not fit that I should
at that time-For nearly four years our
Saviour thought it good to frustrate
every effort I made. This was a severe
trial --- for often after having had my
hopes raised, my disappointments were
severe. My spirit frequently fainted
though my wish continued unabated.
Having at one time believed that the
obstacles were insurmountable, I thought
it right to examine if I could be happy
in any other community. I was well
acquainted with Quakers, methodists,
Baptists and Independents, having at
different times lived amongst them all
I turned to the established church. It
