Personals or our dear Sister Martha Powell who entered
The joy of her Lord the 6th of May 1774.
The following relation she gives her self
I was born the 12th of February 1704 at Norby not far from
Oxford in England. My Fathers name was Pritchard.
My fathers greatest concern was to educate me after the way
of the World and had me taught Dancing and other Idle things
customary in the dame but my mother who was brought up
a quaker,|: tho she was baptized on her wedding day:| was
full of concern for her childrens Salvation, which she manifested more
particularly in her last illness when she frequently spoke of our Saviour's
merits as the whole of her dependance and commended her children
to his care with Prayers and Tears I was in my 5th years when she
dyed and from my childhood I was quite taken up with the
pleasures of this world, nevertheless I frequently melted into tears
when I heard at Church AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA In my
10th year my father married a second wife, upon which I left his
house and went to service at Oxford and being a good
Dancer was much respected among my companions. In my
