Samuel Isles was born in Holbeck near Leeds in the West riding of Yorkshire
April 14th 1723. I was awakn'd in my Childhood and used to weep
exceedingly whenever I read or heard of the sufferings of our Saviour,
but did not understand it, 'till Anno Dom: 1742 when I got acquainted
with Brother Bohler and Toltschig at which time my Heart got some sensation
and knowledge of our Saviour. thro their preaching, I was afterward ac-
quainted with more Brethren who came down to Yorkshire and had the grace
on May 24th A.D. 1743 to be received into the Brethren Church by Brother Joseph
on Lambshill on a publick Prayer day and in July following was permitted
to pertake of the Lords supper at New house. In the year 1744 I was
taken into the single Brothers House in Yorkshire  Holbeck and 1745 mov'd
with them to Lambshill. 1746 was sent by the Brethren to Duckenfield to live
with the single Brothers there and afterward to Ockbrook and Archet. But
in Sept went by order of Brother Johannes with Cennick, Francis Okely,
Hammond Sammy Hunt and Hintz to Germany, we arrived in December
at Marienborn and Herrnhaag, we liv'd in Herrnhaag with the Pilgrim
Congregation till in Sept 1747 went I was sent to England, where I stay'd

Privatier at the North of St. Thomas's harbour. April the 26th 1749
Brother Johannes arriv'd with his Company, he stay'd 6 weeks
on Decknadel, baptized 104 Negros. I was by him ordain'd
Deacon of the Brother's Church June the 9th on the next day he sail'd
for Bethlehem. 1750 the 28 of September I sail'd with West and Chr
