I had given me a great deal of Trouble, I got at last
an Opportunity to buy Russian New Testament, which
was a precious Treasure for me, and I spent many
happy Hours Reading in it, and this was a means
to get more acquainted with the Russian Language (***)
In this year, a Buttonmaker who had work'd by one
of our Brn in Peterbourgh and was stirr'd up by our
Saviour was send away to O---g in the Russian Tartary
out of the Fortress where he had been imprinson'd while
he caresly had shew'd a Johannes Bibel. While he
could earn nothing there with his Trade, the
Foreigners gave him their Children in his Care
for to teach them, and when the found out, he had some
Scripture knowledge, he was oblig'd to preach them
and to baptize their Children also, till he became
at last their settled Minister. Anno 1749 in the Month
of Feb my beloved & venerable Br Gutsloff went home
in his Confinment as a faithful Witness of Jesus
Br Halledorf who sat near to him in the Prison, had
found for all an Opportunity to speak with him
and to do good unto him, sometimes I heard of his Departure that
same Day yet with a tender moving of my Heart,
only that I  the Words, which some Body called to me
thy Brother, the old Gentleman is translated only this
miserable Life in a better first understood
of our dear Br Krugelstein, till I heard it afterwards more

he learn'd the Russian Language so perfect, that he
rather expressed himself in that than in his Mother Language

particular the Russians found on us Brethren
a remarkable likeliness, that they willingly if they
possibly could gave us an Account from one enother
because they took us to be own Brothers. In the same
manner Br Kelterhoff had heard something of me
too. While he had now found an Opportunity to receive
some Money from the Islan Oesel, he came once in the
night time with the Guarde's Consent to see me, and
gaveme some of it with his own Hand. That was an
unexpected tender Embracing, by this opportunity
he found out the part Time by me that there was Bre
thren in Petersbourgh. And he send fice to them, which
I couldd Name. I had had no mind
to do it.
In the Spring of this year the Chirungeon Roehler of the
S----ksch Life Guarde our faithful Friend & Benefactor
got an Opportunity to enquire for Br Krigel
stein and at last he got leave to serve us all &
to visit us. Our dear Saviour Providence and the
Love of this Man mov'd me very much, because he
promis'd us with tenderness and Tears to help and
assist us in every Thing so much as laid in his power.
Tho' at the End of the year this Visistation was hinderd
yet it didn't last long.
In the year 1750 the 4th of Jan when a Protocol, con
cerning the Connexion of our Four Brethren & of our Faith
fulness, Honesty, & Innocency in my Presence, was made
conected & the next Day by me Subscribed, I look'd upon
it as a Providence of God, that this Thing had last so long

Register.
