to rise Stones to it, however, he put himself to all
sorts of bodily Exercise to prepare himself for to be
a Pilgrim. One could find in his actions a Sign of his
future course. In the Fall 1742 he was calld to Mari
enborn, and from there he went to the Island, Oesel
as a Fellow Labourer in the Saviours Work
He soon learn'd the Esthen's Language, and was of
a great Service as well amongst the awaken'd Esthen
as amongst the Children, who teacheth with
all the Industry and Faithfulness He writes him
self from his course of Grace (Gnades Gansh) from that
Time till in the year 1758 as follows: In the year
1742 in the Month of December. I came in the House
of the Counsellor von Sachen, in his Absence to Peters
bourgh and again his Will on the Island Oesel.
The Lambs Blood and grace help'd me thro many Difficul
ties in the House and amongst so many awaken'd Esthen
The Ten Children love me and some of them our
Saviour also to this present Hour. The Father is af-
terwards convinc'd of our Faithfulness & Honesty &
loves us, his Wife is a dear Sister.
The Journey of two of the Sons to the Academy to Halle
was the Occasion that I left that House in the year 1745
in the Month of May. After that I became a Servant
of our happy departed Br Gutsleff. I assist'd him
in his Ecclesiastical Affairs & in his Office and at the
same Time I took Care in Stillness over the Brn & Srs
in the whole Country so much as the Circumstances as to
that Time would permit, visited also for some TImes
the People on the Island Dagden. In the year 1746 in the

Month of Febr. I resolv'd with Consent of all the Brn
& Sisters to go and live with Br von Nothen; for to begin
a Nursery with his Children in the same Manner as
the Children in the Brethren's Congregation us'd to be
car'd for, where I expected the Parents of the Children
and other helpers who were made out to come to
Oesel for that Purpose. I writ therefore several Letters
to the Brn & Sisters at Seiten Schrein, likewise to the
Congregation, in German but it effected not I could have sunk
under the great Care and Labour wherein I was. Our
Congregations Brethren & Sisters had left me alone
on the Island Oesel, (the Sister Grotin was gone to our
Saviour & Br Grat to the Congregation, and so the Sr
Des Gouttes (the present Dorien) had done likewise.
The great anger of our Enemies, which daily increas'd,
and was upholden by the outward Railings, threaten'd
to fall upon me alone. The present Landes Laupleren
had sworn that he would do to me and the Brethren
in Brinkenhoff all that injury possible:
I was still partly ignorant, partly without fear
and would confidently bear it. But in the year 1747 in the North
of March, when i was with Br Nothen in Wyk to the Conference
my sudden Departure was made out, which soon after
that follow'd also with his eldest Son, whom I would
upon their great Desire take along to the Congrega
tion. Eight Scholars out of Four Familys I left
behind. I stay'd in Brinkenhoff till May and saw yet

Register.
