This made his troubles great and he was very
much abused, they look'd upon him as a heretick &
Deceiver, and his Fellow Scholars buffeted him
in the public street, but he remain'd immovable in
his Persuasion, and defended, so much as laid in
his Power, that which he thought was the Truth
This he did once also wish such a boldness in the Upper
Auditory over a Text in the Bible which, he frequently
read in his School years, that he stopp'd the Mouth of
the present Con Rector, while at the End he was con
vinc'd his Scholar had Right, this caus'd that all
the hatred an emnity of his Teachers & Fellow Scho
lars came entirely over him, who overrun his Min
nister (Confessionaries) so long, till he excommunicated
him, & excluded him from the Confession & the Lords Supper
When he was just in this Circumstance, he resolv'd
to go and see Herrnhut, where his Heart by our happy
Disciple's Discourses very much was mov'd. From
that time, he abandoned all the Separatist ideas,
and avoided all the Conversation with such People, and
his Desire only was, that his Heart in the Grace and
knowledge of Jesus Christ might be strenghten'd.
In this Hearts & Minds Situation he went from
Camenz to Lipzich for to study there the Theology
where he got acquainted with them thee Brothers
von Marshall & some others. When his Academical
years was ended, he went streight away to the Con
gregation at Herrnhut. He had directly from his
first awakening such a mighty preaching Spirit (zeugers Geist)
and he could not refrain himself, wherever he had

an Opportunity and to meet with some Body, to convince
Mankind of their unhappy State & the Redemption of Jesus
Christ. When he heart, how the World of Jesus' Passion
amongst the Negroes & Savages with Blessing was
preach'd his Heart rejoyced, & he sung often with Hearts'
Joy: The Rocks the holes the wilderness when he
had liv'd in Herrnhut for a while, he went once to
Camenz on a Visit, there it happen'd that a certain
Captain who was quarter'd in the Town, upon persua
sion of others gave order to some of the Soldiers,
to take him up in the public Road. When he was
brot to the Officer and told by him; he must be
come a Soldier he answered according to his
free and bold manner. I hav'd swan already under
the blood Flag of my God & Saviour and of his bloods
Shedding for us and the propitiation thro' his
Death I would preach to you and to your whole
company every Day, & begun directly to witness
of Jesus and his Love to Sinners for a good while
with such Chearfulness and Power, that the Captain
with all the Civility send him away again
He had the care over the Strangers in Herrnhut (fremdes
dernre) and he was tutor of the young Gentlemen
from Diersdorf, who for the War safe was come
to Herrnhut on the year 1741 & who remember him
still with Love and Regard. He was a chearful, active
single Brother to every Thing willing and it was
his greatest Pleasure if he could put his Hand to
the present Building of the Single Brns House and

Register.
