that I was sound to my Mistress Broky. I was
carried to Chester Castle. So went to one of their
Relations to live. but they & their Servants
used my hard. At sixteen I had a Desire to
go to London, where my Father had a Brother,
who kept a shoemaker-shop, at the Corner of
grat Turnstile in Houlburn, with him I lvied
for some years. I lived about nine years in
London. But hearing Governor Burnet was
going to New-York-Government, I was per
suaded by some of his Servants to go with him,
which I consented to do at last; hearing, he
was an honourable Gentleman, and gave great
wages, and promised to pay our Passage back
if we did not like to stay with him; which he
perform'd to those that went back.
We arrived in New York September the 17th
in the year 1720; and I was married in the year
1722 Oct 5 to George Butnet, the Governor's
Steward & Butler. In the year 1723 July 21st
I had my first Child, my Son John, Born in the
Fort. I left the Governor's Family in the Year
1724, and went to House keeping, my Husband
still living with the Governor, tell he moved
to Boston in April 1728. My Husband went
with

with Him, to see Him and his Effect's safe
there, designing to come back. But the Go-
vernor wanted him to stay and he sent for
me and my 3 children. I went there in the a-
bove said Year (1728) and stay'd there till after the
Governor dyed. I came back to New York in
the year 1730, and ever since I have lived here to
this Day.
I had for some Years desired to be religious
particularly when our dear Saviour by his kind
Providence, brought us in a Neighbourhood
where I had an oportunity to hear of his
Dealings with Sinners. Mr Thomas Noble
and George Brinkerhoffs first wife was bless
ed Instruments in our Saviours Hands to
stir me up, to long to expereince what they
had. I was much bigotted to the Church
of England, and rejoiced to hear of Mr
Whitefield and long'd to see Him.
When he came, I heard him every time
and thought I never heard such praying
and preaching before. When he went
away, it was as if I could have gone
with him. Then I became very earnest
for my Salvation; but notwithstanding I
was not truly awaken'd, till His coming
again

Register.
